Rodgersia podophylla 'Bloody Wheels'
Rogers Flower
Plant Type:
SHADE PERENNIALSRodgersia podophylla 'Bloody Wheels' - Brilliant, bright red glossy leaves erupt in spring, stretch and become reddish bronze, gradually brown and finally bronze-green on this fine selection of Rogers Flower. Each leaf is compound palmate comprised of 5 to 7 toothed leaflets. Astilbe-like flowers are white, composed of masses of tiny florets densely-packed onto irregular panicle structures at tops of strong stems that can top 24 to 36 inches although reports of even taller stems have occurred. Regardless of the gruesome moniker an established clump is a bold, memorable sight in or out of flower and worthy of inclusion anywhere it might be employed. We are confident that the blood isn't Roger's. We cannot speak to his driving skills. Deer resistant. Plant it with companions whose foliage is softer for dynamic contrast. Site in dappled to part sun. Plant in fertile, moisture retaining soil. The species grows naturally in constantly moist ground in Japan where it is even found in bogs. Established potted perennial from division.
