Hydrangea paniculata 'Summer Snow'

Panicle Hydrangea

Plant Type:

DECIDUOUS SHRUBS

Hydrangea paniculata 'Summer Snow' - The leaves are stunners on this fantastic selection. All foliage emerges splashed and stippled with lots creamy yellow and some infusion of pink maturing to creamy white stippled variegations on the green bases. Red petioles are the bridges between the base of each leaf and the quite red youngest woody stems for added accent. The leaf variegations will lessen in the heat of summer but by then the showy upright white panicle flowers emerge. They pick up pink tones as they age and finally dry to tawny brown in the autumn. The spent flowers will remain on the shrub through the winter for multi-seasonal interest. Hydrangea paniculata 'Summer Snow' is a beautiful and easy-natured shrub. Site in full sun to partial shade planted in fertile draining soil. Panicle Hydrangeas express fair drought tolerance once they have established. 'Summer Snow' may be trained into a 10-foot tall small tree. Cutting grown.

Genus Overview: Hydrangea paniculata

Common Name: Panicle Hydrangea

Hydrangea paniculata. The Panicle Hydrangea is an easy, tough shrub. Blooming on new wood in the mid/late season garden for many weeks on end it exhibits fair drought tolerance once it settles into the landscape. Large cone-shaped white flowers become infused with rose pink as they age. They will turn brown in autumn and as in the case of 'Nana' hang on through the winter for an extra season on interest. Site in full to half sun planted in any good garden soil that drains. All we sell are established shrubs from cuttings. All are a manageable size to easily get them settled into your landscape. The specie's native range is China and Japan.
