Colchicum x 'Violet Queen' - Buds erupt near white. The flowers begin to open like a white crocus, smallish at first but quadruple in size as the flowers approach maturity. The flowers are even larger that 'Poseidon' – very showy; I guess queen trumps god. And as they grow they darken to medium violet-pink-purple with a white star on the interior of each flower, not unlike 'Poseidon'. The beautiful flowers resemble a giant pink-purple crocus on whitish stems. This fantastic display of vases exhibits some checkering. An early bloomer, it is usually the first to show for us in early to mid-September.
