Chaenomeles japonica (speciosa?) ‘Kurokoji’ – From nearly black buds velvety deep dark red flowers unfold on this, the darkest-flowered form of Japanese quince. Both 'Kuro' and 'Kurokoji' flower in a deeper darker red than 'Texas Scarlet'. It will form a multi-stemmed shrub taller than ‘Kuro’. Site ‘Kurokoji’ in full to nearly full sun planted in fertile draining soil. Beautiful, richly colored, tough and easy. Typical fruit set add mid to late season interest. Once established it will demonstrate drought tolerance. Cutting grown.
