Allium litvinowii
Ornamental Onion
Plant Type:
BULBSAllium litvinowii (incorrectly A. litwinowii) - A sparkling blue Allium often with a violet tinge. Perfect for the rockery or an arid corner in the alpine house this is an uncommonly offered but very worthwhile ornamental onion if you have the conditions that will satisfy its needs... after all, it's blue. BLUE! Everyone wants more blue flowers. Just think blue for blue skies and as it requires full blazing sun and sharp drainage the association is appropriate. Named for the Russian botanist, Litvinov the commonly seen spelling, litwinowii, is incorrect. Pot grown bulb(s) may arrive bare-root.

Genus Overview: Allium
The Ornamental Onions are a large group with many garden-worthy species. We’ve selected some that have performed well for us. Most require full to nearly full sun in most any average garden soil. The addition of lime is helpful in acid soils. All our Alliums are offered as pot-grown flowering-sized bulbs from our stock plants.
