Adonis amurensis 'Chichibu Beni'
Amur Adonis
Plant Type:
SUN PERENNIALSAdonis amurensis ‘Chichibu Beni’ – Instead of the specie's usual deep gold flowers occurring as a surprising relief in late winter to early spring is this rare cultivar sporting flowers of delicious golden orange. Each semi-cupped single flower is about 1 inch in diameter. 'Chichibu Beni' purportedly translates to Red City, Chichibu being a city in central Japan. In a few years when the plant sizes up the flowers will emerge in a domed clustered mound like a lovely earthy bouquet. The globe-shaped buds set atop the stems from which the attractive green ferny foliage gradually matures. Leaves are dissected, soft and refined. The entire plant, a spring ephemeral, goes dormant disappearing in late spring. Site Adonis amurensis in humus-rich part to nearly full sun in humus rich woodland conditions. Pot grown Division.
