Solidago sphacelata 'Golden Fleece'
Dwarf Goldenrod
Plant Type:
SUN PERENNIALSSolidago sphacelata 'Golden Fleece' – Lovely golden yellow arched wands arise late summer lasting into autumn on mounds of attractive green leaves. Only growing about 1 to 2 feet tall this is a very well-behaved clumping Goldenrod perfect for a late season pairing with any of the late season shorter growing asters, Allium thunberii or set before the late blooming daylilies whose foliage often becomes increasingly unsightly as they continue to erupt with exceptional lily flowers late summer into fall. Though it may be virtually evergreen in more southerly haunts it is a clean, deciduous perennial for us in northeastern Connecticut. Solidago sphacelata 'Golden Fleece' is another wonderful introduction made at Mt. Cuba Center in Hockessin, DE. This 'Golden Fleece' selection of Dwarf Goldenrod is another good bee and butterfly plant. I just had another thought as to a pairing possibility and another terrific Mt. Cuba into: plant a ground cover of Viola walteri 'Silver Gem' at the feet of 'Golden Fleece'. Fertile to average draining soil in part to full sun. Pot grown division.
