Hamamelis virginiana 'Harvest Moon'

Common Witchhazel

Plant Type:

DECIDUOUS SHRUBS

Hamamelis virginiana 'Harvest Moon' - A most handsome selection of Common Witchhazel made by Dick Jaynes from Broken Arrow Nursery. Typical butter yellow autumn leaves fall leaving the flowers exposed on this later flowering selection with slightly larger flowers than the species. This ups the ante for this most worthy species; the big issue with Common Witchhazel is that the flowers occur simultaneously with the autumn color, they are the very same yellow in tone, the leaves obscure the flowers. But the fragrant flowers can now be appreciated on this large shrub/small tree. As 'Harvest Moon' wants to grow tall with some stems reaching vertically pointing at the sky it can easily be pruned and trained into a small tree if that is your bent. And it's mid- to late autumn interest extends the growing season. Site in full to part sun planted in fertile, draining soil. Established potted shrub, cutting grown.
