Chlorophytum comosum 'Gold Nugget'

Spider Plant

Plant Type:

TENDER PERENNIALS

Chlorophytum comosum 'Gold Nugget' - A very nice selected variegated ground covering Chlorophytum which may only rise to a few inches tall in a pot, a bit taller in the ground. Slightly broader, arching deep green lances from a rosette sport clean, even and broad margins of creamy white spread quickly, overlap and set densely. A good house plant in the north with the laudable quality of filtering pollutants from the air (if I remember correctly, formaldehyde, in particular). It will make a beautiful, easy ground cover in part to full shade in fertile draining soil where it can be grown outdoors. White summer flowers add to the light it can create in open shade. If I lived in the deep south I'd want a ground cover of this under existing shrubs. This will also make a very nice windowsill plant... you won't require a hanging basket for this Spider Plant. Though having arrived with the species listed as comosum it is all too possible that the tag is a mistake. Wim Snoeijer shared with us that "Chlorophytum laxum as a botanical species exists but in cultivation Chlorophytum comosum 'Variegatum' is grown and sold under the name C. laxum in Holland / Europe." Under any name 'Gold Nugget' is a very worthy little plant. Full, established pot of this ground covering Spider Plant from division.
