Camellia japonica 'Korean Fire'

Camellia

Plant Type:

BROADLEAF EVERGREEN SHRUBS

Camellia japonica 'Korean Fire' – 4 remaining. Deep red single camellia flowers with a rich yellow central boss of stamens adorn this early spring bloomer. The brief and recent history of this plant is that a number of shrubs were identified from islands near the border North and South Korea. The region in which they were found raised hopes of camellias with greater hardiness. 'Korean Fire', one among the selected plants from this region that were distributed, was selected in central Pennsylvania after surviving temperatures dropping to -23F. This compact grower cloaked in glossy dark green foliage extends the growing range a bit farther north for those who love Camellia. Plant 'Korean Fire' in fertile, organic soils that drain in dappled to open shade. If pot grown be sure the mix drains well for a healthy root system. Cutting grown.
