Begonia grandis - Large green leaves with some silver spotting when they first unfold, reminiscent of but larger than those of Angel Wing Begonia, emerge from tubers in mid June here. Yes, this is hardy for us - we grow it outdoors without any special winter protection. Rising to as tall as 3 feeteach leaf is backed in striking red-purple with some of this color seen in the stems. August brings typical begonia flowers in medium pink, pendant, graceful. Begonia grandis blooms until frost here. If happy it will self-sow. Site in morning sun to dappled shade planted in fertile, organic but draining soil. Remember where you site it as Begonia grandis emerges late from dormancy. Will arrive pruned back if ordered in autumn. Cutting grown.
