Symphytum x uplandicum 'Axeminster Gold'

Comfrey

Plant Type:

SUN PERENNIALS

Symphytum x uplandicum ‘Axeminster Gold’ (ex: Hinkley's Heronswood) – 3 remaining. This vigorous herbaceous perennial is a foliage knockout! Large mounds are up to 2.5’ tall or higher. Composed of much longer than wide tongues of leaves each is broadly margined in bright sunny yellow, the aggregate exhibiting an almost fountain-like effect. Flowering stalks offer pale blue pendulous flowers which become mixed with some light pink as they age in the summer garden on stems to 4’. But it is the foliage that is what makes this perennial a stunner sited in full sun planted in fertile soil. Though the parents of 'Axeminter Gold' are rambunctious this beautiful child is well-behaved. Dan Hinkley cuts his to the ground before flowering which prompts a new flush of gorgeous foliage. 'Axeminster Gold' is a moderate increaser gradually widening the girth of the clump. We do the same thing after flowering. Division or cutting grown.
