Ligustrum sinense 'Wimbei'

Box-leaf Privet

Plant Type:

DECIDUOUS SHRUBS

Ligustrum sinense 'Wimbei' (ex: Louis Raymond) - The Box-leaf Privet sports stubby ovate leaves that set densely on long stems. This form will lend itself nicely to bonsai and cut stems can be woven into wreaths. Left to its own devices the shrub's habit will tend to be tall and narrow but 'Wimbei' takes well to pruning if a shorter more rounded plant is desired - all dependent upon your aesthetic needs. 'Wimbei' should not be confused with its larger cousin, Chinese Privet, which is an invasive plant especially in the south. And though this odd form is very unlikely to be an invasive issue any potential invasive quality will be controlled with pruning. This shrub has medicinal properties and when properly prepared and dosed can be used as an antipyretic - kids, don't try this at home unless working with a knowledgeable herbalist steeped in such lore. Fertile, draining soil in sun. Established potted shrub from cutting.
