Aster oblongifolius 'October Skies'

Aromatic Aster

Plant Type:

SUN PERENNIALS

Aster oblongifolius 'October Skies' (now known, God help us, as Symphiotrichum oblongifolium 'October Skies') - This form of the Aromatic Aster is completely cloaked in blue to blue-purple daisies in the autumn garden over the course of 5 to 6 weeks. It's a big draw for bees and butterflies. The copious stems arch to create a domed mound of glorious blue asters, the flowers cloaking the dome such that little or no foliage is in view. Consider this rich combo in drifts: any among the handsome Fountain Grass, 'Foxtrot' or 'Redhead' in the rear or 'Little Bunny' in the foreground along with Amsonia whose foliage turns yellow to gold in autumn. Add Leucanthemella and you've got one beautiful scene... the only thing missing is a big old pumpkin or three. 'October Skies' is wonderful - we had it here for years and lost it in a garden that became too shady. Now we have it again; so should you. Its nativity is over most of the United States except some of the deep south and far western states. Established pot grown perennial from cutting or division.
