WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI:

We can ship bare rooted items such as bulbs, tubers and cacti to some states west of the Mississippi River; these plants are marked in the descriptive text in the catalog for each of the species/cultivars we normally ship bare root. There may be other plants that we can ship bare root; these we will have to discuss. You may send a list to us via e mail. Send to: wayne@quackingrassnursery.com

There may be some negotiable perennials such as Acorus and Iris that are tough and will barely falter if attended to as soon as they reach their destination. Please note that if you insist upon bare rooting of any of the species/cultivars we would normally send as potted plants we cannot apply any guarantee to any of these items. They will be shipped at your own risk.

We cannot ship potted plants to these states due to the chemical requirements. If you have questions regarding what may or may not be shipped you may contact us at wayne@quackingrassnursery.com or by phone at 1 (860) 779-1732 between the hours of 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Fridays. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: We are not shipping beyond the borders of the continental U.S at this time. In due course this policy may change. Our website will reflect this change if and when it comes to be.

OUR PREFERRED SHIPPER

We are utilizing the United States Postal Service as our carrier, the Priority Mail method as our go-to choice. You would be wise to see to it that that your postal worker delivers your plants to your front door and not abandon a box of plants at your mailbox. This practice is especially precarious during extremely cold periods when tender plants may be damaged. It is also very dangerous in hotter weather when an enclosed box of plants may broil if left in the sun.

Please note: We will not ship to PO boxes – only to proper street addresses.

SHIPPING SIZES

We ship in several differently sized pots. Certain corms, bulbs and tubers may be shipped bareroot at our discretion; these will be noted in the on line catalog. Root balls may be lifted from larger-sized containers, i.e. 6.5 x 6 inch Rounds, packaged and sent in plastic bags which will be tied shut at the crown of these plants. (We continue to utilize plastic pots until such time that truly sturdy, inexpensive bio-degradable containers become available which are guaranteed to stand up for more than 2 seasons before disintegrating.)

  • 3 inch Square Press Fit Pot – 6 fluid ounces / 177 ml.
  • 3 inch Square Press Fit Pot Extra Deep – 9.5 fluid ounces / 280 ml.
  • 4 inch Square Press Fit Pot – 1.05 Pints / 497 ml.

  • 4 inch Square Press Fit Pot Extra Deep - 1.52 Pints / 720 ml.
  • 5 Pint Square - 68 fluid ounces / 2.0110 liters
  • True 5 inch Square - 2 quarts
  • 6.5 x 6 inch Round – 5.625 pints / 2.66 liters

  • All Hemerocallis, specified bulbs, corms and a handful of other plants are or may be shipped bare root

SHIPPING TIMES

We do not ship year round. We have 2 shipping periods, spring and autumn. If you place an order during a non-shipping period we will hold your order until the next shipping opportunity unless special arrangements have been made beforehand.

  • Our spring shipping period begins early March and continues through the 3rd week of June. Some plants can be shipped and planted even during the hottest parts of the summer but not all. We are going to implement altering our catalog by removing plants that are not appropriate for July / August interment leaving those available to customers who only have the time during or simply don't mind gardening in the heat of summer. We begin shipping to customers living down south earlier in the shipping window gradually shipping farther north as the spring breaks northward. If and when night time temperatures are problematic in the early part of the shipping window we will send out an email to all those affected indicating a delay in shipping until such time that nighttime temperatures are safe and appropriate for sending your plants. The last thing we want is boxes of plants sitting in the back of a frozen postal truck overnight or resting on the freezing tarmac awaiting situation on an airplane... welcome to our world!
  • Our autumn shipping period runs early September through the mid-October period and very possibly early-mid November for customers in the deep south. Northern customers are served first. As the autumn progresses southward so does our shipping.
  • All customers who have greenhouses available should let us know. We can alter our usual shipping times to accommodate your wants when plants have protection.

SEASONAL EXCEPTIONS

We ship with the best interests of the plants and your success in mind. We usually will not ship certain plants (broadleaf evergreens and magnolias among others) during the autumn shipping window as it is culturally unsound practice to plant them in this season, especially in the north. If you own a heated or a cool greenhouse – one that does not freeze in cold weather – and would like your shipment outside of our usual shipping windows we may be able to accommodate your wants dependent upon regional weather and forecasts at time of shipping. Please note: off-season shipping is at customer’s risk; our limited guarantee is null and void. Please let us know if this is an option you wish to pursue by note attached to an order form, call us at (860) 779-1732 or e mail us at wayne@quackingrassnursery.com Be certain to include all pertinent information such as your name, the area of the country in which your desired plants will be delivered, phone #, e mail address the plant or plants in question.
