Spiraea x vanhouttei ‘Gold Fountain’ – 'Gold Fountain' is a fountain of arching stems carrying pretty yellow and scalloped leaves which turn soft orange to red in autumn. White flowers just touched with pink appear in summer and are showy. The two colors are actually lovely… yes, I know pink and yellow are frowned upon but the colors are so pastel that I do not find this a garish combo, rather more Rococo. Site ‘Gold Fountain’ in full to mostly sunny situations planted in any good garden soil. Avoid especially hot and exposed situations as 'Gold Fountain' will likely burn in blazing midsummer conditions.

Common Name: Spirea

Spireas are useful shrubs of easy temperament. Making terrific fillers, hedgers and many fantastic foundation shrubs they are renowned for their toughness. They can down face taller shrubs and conifers and are versatile enough to be easily worked into herbaceous gardens where they will provide year round structure. Many are of Asian origin but we have also some fine New World counterparts. Most are happier in more sun. And though drought tolerant they will be more content in fertile conditions. All of the following are cutting grown.
