Sambucus canadensis 'Laciniata'

Cutleaf Elderberry

Plant Type:

DECIDUOUS SHRUBS

Sambucus canadensis ‘Laciniata’ (syn. ‘Acutiloba’) – This form of Elderberry has deeply cut green leaves, soft, feathery and very attractive. Not a commonly offered form it will look great mixed with bolder-foliaged plants in the wild garden, at woodland’s edge or as part of a wildlife planting. This one is handsome enough to be included as a shrubby element in the shrub border or even as a backdrop in a perennial garden. As a grower it is a bit restrained both in height and width as compared to some of its siblings. We took cuttings from Carole Williamson's plant (yes, with her consent) in Columbia, Connecticut. We do not know where this form was originally identified though the species originates Nova Scotia to Manitoba, south to Florida and Texas. Site 'Laciniata' in full to part sun planted in good loam. If ordered in our Autumn shipping window the cut-leaf form of Elderberry will be pruned back. Cutting grown.
