Pleioblastus pygmaeus 'Wooster's Dwarf'
Bamboo
Plant Type:
GRASSES & GRASS-LIKE PLANTSPleioblastus pygmaeus ‘Wooster’s Dwarf’ – This bamboo is a dwarf’s dwarf, growing even shorter than its larger sibling, P. pygmaeus. Once it settles in it will make a virtually evergreen carpet in warmer climes, turning beige at the northern end of its range when the weather turns cold. It can be grown in the rockery, in a pot or wherever a low maintenance ground cover is required. Ornamental ‘Wooster’s Dwarf’ can be of utilitarian use, too, holding an embankment in place. And for bonsai enthusiasts consider that this dwarf bamboo would make a most elegant palette cleanser in a container set between specimen bonsai. Site in sun to part shade planted in fertile soil to which organic matter has been added. This is a quickly colonizing plant and a very good ground cover. Pot grown from good old-fashioned division.
