Anemarrhena asphodeloides

Plant Type:

SUN PERENNIALS

Anemarrhena asphodeloides – is a rare food and medicinal plant from China. But it's also attractive. Medium green leathery foliage, grassy and glossy, arches up and over growing from 8” to 12” long. The flowering spire emerges from the center of each clump growing from to 3’ to 5’ tall with small rice grain-like flowers infused with pink or pink-lavender up and down the stalks blooming for a long period in summer. En masse they provide textural contrast with composites or, indeed, any flower that is rounded, fuller and not so spiky. Ours is planted on a knoll in morning sun and open afternoon shade in fertile, humus-rich soil. It has prospered in clumping habit and gradually increased its girth; there has been no seeding about. This handsome perennial provides a unique texture in the summer garden – it is a must for herbalists and collectors. Established pot grown perennial.
