Hovenia dulcis

Japanese Raisin Tree

Plant Type:

TREES

Hovenia dulcis – This is the Japanese Raisin Tree. It is a small tree with fantastic bark, this notable attribute becoming better and better as the trunk’s caliper increases. The June/July flowering 2” to 3” cymes are white-infused green, attractive. They remind us of the Epaulette Tree, Pterostyrax. The resulting drupes are gray to brown. The red stems holding the fruits are edible and sweet. Sometimes yellow fall color occurs but when this happens it should be thought of as a bonus. Plant the Japanese Raisin Tree in fertile soil sited in plenty of sun. In the north spring planting is strongly advised. Cutting grown.
