Hamamelis vernalis 'Pendula'

Vernal Witchhazel

Plant Type:

DECIDUOUS SHRUBS

Hamamelis vernalis 'Pendula' - This is a rare weeping form of Vernal Witch Hazel whose cascading branches in late winter to early spring are studded with fragrant rusty orange flowers each with a red calyx. Summer foliage is medium green and turns bright butter yellow in autumn before dropping. The winter affect is lovely and interesting with light reflective bark that makes me think of white gold. For us in northeastern Connecticut Hamamelis vernalis is a tough customer in full sun to partly shady situations planted in any good garden soil. Though we do not know the origins of this particular form the species is found along creeks on the Ozark plateau. Established potted shrub, cutting grown.
