Abyssinian Glad

Plant Type:

BULBS

Gladiolus callianthus 'Murielae' (form. Acidanthera callianthus) (ex: Leslie Shields) - is the Abyssinian Glad or Sword Lily. Wide open white flowers with deep purple hearts in the shape of a six-pointed star gracefully weep from arching pedicels up and down the flowering stem late summer into autumn. The flowers emit a delicate sweet fragrance as an added bonus. It is elegant, lovely and oh, so easy to grow! We keep our "colony" in a big old pot that we drag outside in the spring and pull back into a modestly heated green house in fall where it flowers resplendently for weeks on end. This plant originates in Ethiopia. Tall and narrow with gradual increase.
