Salix x 'Jon Splane'
Dwarf Willow
Plant Type:
DECIDUOUS SHRUBSSalixx 'Jon Splane' - We have scant information regarding this fine little willow, a horizontal growing dwarf shrub raising its frame to the stratospheric heights of four inches! It has not been determined that this refined dwarf is a hybrid or not. Late winter / early spring catkins are only one quarter-inch feathered puffs in white. Plant in draining soil in plenty of sun. 'Jon Splane' will likely benefit from some shade where planted in the more southerly regions. Leaves may turn yellow to gold in autumn sub-tended by the new wood's dark red stems. This small willow seems to be tolerant of somewhat irregular watering implying that 'Jon Splane' may be more forgiving if it should go dry in the garden... I wouldn't press my luck on this until you had hedged your bets by propagating a number so that one could perform a comparison test. 'Jon Splane' and Salix lindleyana may both have originated with Siskyou Nursery in Medford, Oregon. It is not clear if 'Jon Splane' is a hybrid or a species selection related to S. lindleyana... many unknowns here. Established potted dwarf willow from cutting.
