Syringa reticulata subsp. amurensis – Japanese Tree Lilac has a number of fine features. Specimens I've encountered grow 12 to 15 feet tall and make resplendent candidates as specimens for a smaller landscape. It flowers in large, showy panicles up to 12 inches long and 10 inches wide. They are somewhat fragrant though akin to the odor of privet which is a turn off to many people but flowers are generally on stems taller than most folks, at least on specimens approaching mature status. The handsome bark is reminiscent of cherry. And this fine woody is virtually trouble free. It is adaptable to many conditions though best in a well-drained soil. This species originates in northern Japan. Established potted Japanese Tree Lilac from cutting.
