Rohdea japonica 'Go Dai Shu' (also spelled 'Godaishu'; ex: Jonathan Lehrer) – Another choice Sacred Lily with all new strap-shaped leaves heavily striated in creamy yellow. The green of this cultivar approaches forest green - very dark, darker than 'Tamgawa-ryu'. The dark backdrop makes the cream stripes pop. Leaves mature to a leathery, fibrous texture and the creamy yellow lightens to milk white. We love all the Rohdea - we can't help ourselves! Flowers are like squat, fat little corn cobs composed of tightly clustered light yellow-green florets. They open to reveal anthers, the edges of the orifice like little teeth surrounding the central pistil. Pollinated florets develop clustered glossy green fruits. Maturing red the “berries” loosely resemble the fruiting inflorescence of Jack-in-the-Pulpit. Site in fertile to draining woodland soils. All Sacred Lilies are tolerant of dry summer soil once established. Established pot grown Sacred Lily from division and if grown in a container maintaining them drier during winter will be beneficial. Established pot grown perennial from division.
