Antennaria neglecta - Pussytoes, Field Pussytoes, Prairie Pussytoes. from basal rosettes of silvery gray simple leaves rise stems from 4 to 12 inches with terminal mounds of soft, white and clustered discs which resemble what else: pussytoes! Once happily established the plants spread stoloniferously and can create a dense and handsome groundcover. Place them front of the lean border, in the rock garden, on an impoverished well-drained slope, in the climax lawn, as a groundcover among taller full sun companions that also revel in the same stony, sandy, impoverished and well-drained conditions such as Genista multibracteata or G. lydia, many Daphne, Asphodeline, Geranium lancastriense, Satureja, etc, etc, etc. If you plant Antennaria neglecta in fertile moisture retaining ground they will rot. Pussytoes always delighted me when I was young... they delight me now! They are a great draw for butterflies. Full sun in average to sandy, impoverished ground. Farther south part shade will be fine. Antennaria neglecta is found in most of North America from North Carolina west to Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and all states north from those outline states into most of Canada except Yukon and Nanavut Territories.
