Alcea rugosa

Hollyhock

Plant Type:

BIENNIAL

Alcea rugosa - A very pretty Hollyhock sporting large pale yellow mallow flowers on tall columns nearly all summer. Though listed as a biennial to short-lived perennial our mother plants seem to be pushing out babies at the crown making a slowly expanding stand giving the appearance of a longer-lived perennial. Foliage is notably lobed with 3 to 7 lobes per leaf. This species harbors disease resistance - the rust a problem for the myriad rainbow-colored strains. And did you know that pale yellows will work with and contrast beautifully with any color you might pit them against? Fertile ground - don't cheat it. Full to half sun; if the latter afternoon sun being the optimum. If happy it will self-sow and furnish your garden with plants for years to come. Established potted Hollyhock from seed.
