Plant Type:

SUN PERENNIALS

Ostrowskia magnifica - Imagine an imposing herbaceous plant reaching up to 5 feet tall covered with enormous, 4 to 5-inch powder blue to lavender-blue to white open bell-shaped flowers on tall pedicels. That's the Giant Bellflower. Glaucous leaves are whorled. Roots run deep and are fleshy. Full sun with some open afternoon shade in areas with hot summers. This exceptional relataive of Campanula originates in Bokhara, a region in Central Asia. It was discovered by Albert Regel who named it for Nicolayevich von Ostrowsky. Plant in a well draining and deep fertile soil... just add some sand, perlite and / or crushed gravel. Regarding hardiness - we're uncertain! This is a new plant to us. Some sites claim 4 to 8. Others claim 8 to 10. But considering the part of the world these amazing plants are native we're siding with USDA 4 to 8. Established, potted Giant Bellflower via division or seed.
