Primula kisoana 'Noushoku' - Vibrant dark pink flowers are the calling card for this rendition of the Japanese Primrose, a much deeper pink than the normal species. It is otherwise like the straight species. It's very pretty... Leaves are hirsute, rounded and scalloped - quite distinct from other primulas. I can imagine a woodland floor erupting in a mix of the three versions: light pink and dark pink offset by white. What a wonderful tapestry that would make. The worthy Japanese Primrose (are there any unworthy Primula?) even shrugs-off the allelopathic agent, juglans, from Black Walnut Trees. Plant in fertile, moisture-retentive soil sited in dappled to open shade. As is true for many shade loving woodland perennials early morning or very late afternoon sun is okay.
