Abelia chinensis - Chinese Abelia

​Abelia chinensis - Pink flower buds open to white fragrant trusses on this pretty butterfly magnet. The panicles of funnel-shaped flowers begin usually in early July and the shrub may continue to blossom for most of the summer. Small medium green ovate leaves are simple and alternate. They provide a delicate overall appearance. Chinese Abelia is one of the parents for the Abelia x grandiflora hybrids. Abelia chinensis is also a bit more hardy. Though less often seen it is a fine plant in its own right. Plant in fertile, draining soil sited in full to mostly sunny conditions. Spring planting is the wiser tactic for gardeners towards the northern end of its range. Established potted Chinese Abelia from cutting.
