Bletilla striata 'Variegata'

Urn Orchid

Plant Type:

SUN PERENNIALS

Bletilla striata 'Variegata' - All long green blades, handsomely pleated, sport a cream white picotee edge. Flowers are typical - deep violet-carmine. Bletilla striata is of Asian origin but 'Variegata' is a selection and probably of garden origin. Site your Urn Orchid in afternoon shade planted in fertile moisture retaining soil to which organic matter has been added. Once established Bletilla demonstrates some drought tolerance. Though we have listed a height of 18 to 24 inches in the happiest circumstance your Urn Orchid may rise to 30-inches. In the north be certain to plant Bletilla striata at least 4 inches deep and in the early part of the growing season is probably wise. Plant in organic soil. Established pot-grown orchid via division.
