Rohdea japonica 'Tamagawa-ryu'
Sacred Lily
Plant Type:
SHADE PERENNIALSRohdea japonica 'Tamagawa-ryu' - Gorgeous striated form - look at those leaves! This is a full-sized selection with emerald green new growth sporting warm yellow striations. No two leaves are exactly alike with more yellow on some, more green on others. Some leaves every now and then display a warm yellow zone encompassing up to half the width of the leaf. The beautiful yellow rays and striations eventually pale to lighter yellow and finally to cream yellow. This came to us once again without a name tag (sigh)... We think we deduced the correct cultivar name; we are, however, not absolutely certain. But as this selection is distinct with its comely exhibition of warm, sunny yellow in place of the more usual creamy white plus the allocation of variable width yellow rays we may have honed-in on the correct moniker. Under any designation it's an exceptional and choice Sacred Lily. Open to dappled shade in fertile soil. Tolerant of dry summer shade once established. Shelter at the northern fringes. Established pot grown perennial from division.
