Plant Type:

ARID LAND PLANTS

Clematis hirsutissima – is another one of the “bush clematis” from the western U. S., not often seen. Deep, dark purple-blue relatively narrow waxy bells dangle among very hirsute, deeply cut foliage in a very gray-green, the color due to all the silvery-white hairs. These are followed by typical fuzzy seed heads that extend interest. Ours are grown in a calcareous bony mix to which some good compost has been added. In richer soil they may grow taller but ours seldom exceed 15”. Seed grown.
