Climbing Hydrangea

Plant Type:

VINES

Hydrangea anomola ssp. petiolaris 'Miranda' – Variegated form of Climbing Hydrangea with the centers of all dark green leaves generously edged in bright yellow, a beautiful contrast. Plant 'Miranda' in fertile soil and set her in more sun than not. If so, you will achieve better flowering with typical domed white lace caps, the central island of fertile parts beautifully surrounded by the sterile florets which may be attractiors for the pollinating insects. Just beautiful in all respects. Because of the lesser amounts of chlorophyll in the leaves this may be slower to settle in and in northern climes may want a year or two of winter protection until it grabs hold. Worth the effort. We layer these and it takes a few years to grow a substantial plant. For gardeners towards the northern end of its range spring planting is strongly advised.
