Cercis griffithii

Afghan Redbud

Plant Type:

TREES

Cercis griffithii – A remarkable small tree from Afghanistan with an arced dome growing eventually 15 to 20 feet tall. Pink pea flowers erupt en masse in spring followed by heart-shaped green leaves which emerge with a red-bronze flush. Yellow fall leaf color is possible. The tree in autumn and winter is decorated with dangling dark brown flattened “pea pods” which are 4 to 6 inches long, especially fun in winter after the leaves drop. Moist fertile draining soils in full sun. Seed grown.
