Hepatica acutiloba
Liverleaf
Plant Type:
SHADE PERENNIALSHepatica acutiloba – white to lavender-pink flowers up to 1-inch across erupt above emerging foliage tinted bronze-purple covered with silver hairs in early spring. But foliage color is variable as seen in the pictures with some individuals emerging green with no bronze-purple shading. White blossoms have staying power and may last up to two months. The tri-lobed foliage of Sharp-lobed Hepatica expands maturing green to green infused with bronze-maroon and remains handsome all season long. (Some forms sport exceptional brown-maroon or silver markings and when these are located are worth the hefty price tag.) Hepatica acutiloba, also known as Liverleaf, which I have ignorantly second degree plant-slaughtered more than once, prefers plenty of lime mixed into a rich soil so Leo Blanchette tells us. Thank you, Leo, for informing us of its correct culture... The species no longer has need to fear us. Open to dappled shade. Be sure to avoid harsh sun as it will toast – and I don't mean in the celebratory way. Pot grown division.
