Lilium martagon

Martagon Lily

Plant Type:

BULBS

Lilium martagonThe Turk's Cap or Martagon Lily is soft pink suffused with just a bit of lavender. The lovely pendant lily flowers complete with recurved petals and some black spotting dangle and sway in spring breezes. From France through northern Asia and East to Korea and Japan, Martagon Lily is clearly broadly habituated. Calcareous soils are best though ours seem perfectly content in rich, moisture retaining acid loam. Having said that I wouldn't be surprised if we would garner even more remarkable flowers per stem if we had them situated in more limy condition. Part sun, dappled to open shade. If purchased in autumn Martagon Lily will arrive cutback / dormant.

We love the lilies but because of Lilyleaf Beetle which has become a bane to lily lovers in the northeast we are offering virtually no bulb lilies at this time. Sad. But we couldn't dispense with Martagon Lily! So sweet and gentle is its composure. So, we are growing these from collected seed in bulb pans in a protected, shaded greenhouse. Pot grown bulbs. Bulbs are 5 years old, blooming to near blooming size. At least three very yellow scaly bulbs per pot.
