Sphaeralcea incana
Gray Globemallow
Plant Type:
ARID LAND PLANTSSphaeralcea incana - Loads of one-inch orange cup-shaped flowers up and down tall stems from late summer into autumn are a draw to bees. Foliage is dusty gray-green on this attractive late season perennial with a rough-hewn wild look. Contrary to some of what we've read on the web Gray Globemallow is both perennial and perfectly hardy for us in USDA zone 5b. We have ours planted in average soil in our xeric garden sited in full blazing sun. We look forward to its remarkable season of flowers every year. And that orange is a great late season color. Sphaeralcea incanahales from Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. For gardeners towards the northern end of its range spring planting is stongly advised. Raised up by seed or cutting grown.
