Poliothrysis sinensis

Plant Type:

TREES

Poliothrysis sinensis - On a trek to Mount Auburn Cemetery near the end of July in 2012 Jon Lehrer and I came across a mature specimen of this amazing tree in peak flower. Drawn like moths to light we were stunned. What a beautiful medium-sized tree in glorious bloom when few other trees are in flower. Large white and yellow panicles in a very warm, bright tint, 4 to 8 inches in length, occurred terminally in great profusion. Pretty green leaves are bright and semi-glossed. According to Michael Dirr they pick up laudable tones of yellow to wine in autumn. It's uncommon in the trade and we're uncertain as to why? Not fussy to soil and drought tolerant site Poliothrysis sinensis in full sun. Cutting grown.
