Syneilesis aconitifolia – If you want more than one please call about availability at (860) 779-1732... Thank you! This is an amazing perennial for the open shade, dappled to morning sun woodland garden. Sometimes called the Shredded Umbrella Plant, an unfortunate name which conjures up the image of torn black umbrellas on an especially bad hair day, this plant is anything but ragged; rather, it is regal. Bold, beautiful deeply cut leaves, indented close to the central supporting stem, are peltate in form, rounded in outline. Nearly the size of dinner plates on well-grown specimens the dark green semi-glossy foliage, from 18” to 24” in diameter, remains handsome all through the growing season. Mauve aster-like flowers held close to the vertical stems blossom midsummer on 3’ to 5’ stems. The flowers are alright… but it’s the foliage that’ll knock your socks off! The most notable point about the flowers is that they actually erupt in midsummer when most woodlanders have long since had their day in the shade. This is another great plant that also happens to display significant tolerance to dry summer shade. Syneilesis aconitifolia is a clumping perennial with moderately slow increase.
