Stransvaesia davidii ‘Palette’ – 'Palette' is a beautiful variegated shrub. Glossy tongues of foliage are light green, cream and pink from red-pink stems. White summer corymbs give way to bright red berry-like fruits. And the foliage picks up raspberry to dark pink-red tones in the autumn landscape, the stems holding long onto the leaves usually into winter in the north. I suspect that in warmer climes 'Palette' will be a virtual evergreen. It’s a lovely filler shrub in the foundation, mixed shrub hedgerow, with conifers or even in the herbaceous garden. Plant ‘Palette’ in slightly acid, organic draining soil sited in full to mostly full sun. It has proven hardy for us in USDA zone 5b. Though said to be large growing it has remained smaller with slow growth in northeastern Connecticut. Spring planting is ad in the northern end of its hardiness range. They are usually angular and especially odd in the pot but give them a little time... just think of the "ugly duckling" scenario... and WHAT an insult: ALLLL baby ducks are cute! These may have to be judiciously pruned. Cutting grown.
