Scopolia carniolica

Henbane Bell

Plant Type:

SHADE PERENNIALS

Scopolia carniolica – the Henbane Bell is a fascinating member of the Solanaceae with large deep, dark green semi-glossy leaves as a foil for large, pendant tubular bells in blood red shade. Once you've seen it you'll never forget it, Scopolia carniolica is truly memorable. A bane to hens... and lots of other two and four-legged creatures the plant is chock full of atropine and tropane alkaloids... very much as many of its tomato relatives. From Beech forests in Europe this unique plant thrives in constantly moist to wet fertile soils in half to dappled sun. Avoid hot afternoon sun. Pot grown cutting or from seed - either way well-established.
