Dysosma versipellis (syn. Podophyllum versipelle subsp. boreale) – is a rare, endangered endemic Chinese May Apple. The bold leaves are dark green, glossy and lobed umbrellas up to 1’ wide, paired atop stems up to 20” tall. In spring fascinating dense clusters of down-turned dark flowers, the color of dried blood, occur at the fork where the leaves diverge. This plant will gradually spread into a small colony. Multiple flowering stems will result in viable seed. Site this marvelous woodlander in open shade to morning sun planted in fertile soil. Protect the Chinese May Apple from voles. A moderate spreader but mild in its quest for expansion as compared to our native Podphyllum peltatum. Established potted Chinese May Apple from division.
