Cephalanthus occidentalis 'Sputnik'

Buttonbush

Plant Type:

DECIDUOUS SHRUBS

Cephalanthus occidentalis ‘Sputnik’ – A very nice selected Buttonbush with all flowering orbs looking like the famous Soviet Sputnik satellite. Flowers are sometimes infused with the barest touch of pink when developing, finally maturing white on a nicely formed shrub with somewhat glossy leaves. The foliage often picks up yellow tones in the autumn before dropping. This is a plant content in constantly damp to even wet soils. They relish a rich, organic soil, at least ours does, though it is said that they are adaptable. Buttonbush is a terrific wildlife plant used by all manner of winged creatures, bees, water birds and butterflies alike. ‘Sputnik’ has been selected by Steve Bieberich in Oklahoma. The species originates in many parts of North America, Cuba, East Asia. Cutting grown.
