The double flowers exhibit a lovely pastel lavender-pink that this photo doesn't quite capture.

Cardamine pratensis 'Salzach'

Plant Type:

SHADE PERENNIALS

Cardamine pratensis 'Salzach' -  Lovely double pale pink-touched lavender flowers on stems to 8 inches remind us just a bit of double delphinium or stock. Florets are more openly set on stems emerging from pastel pink buds in spring. 'Salzach' is sterile and, therefore, will not set seed. It will make a lovely grouping in the cottage garden, at the front of the perennial border or any appropriate spot your amazing hearts desire. It will even work well in a shade to part-shaded rock garden. Spring blooming and for a number of weeks. Common names... oh, no - here we go: Cuckoo Flower, Lady's Flower, Lady's Smock, Wildflower of Britain and Ireland, Bread and Milk, Cuckoo Bread, Milk Maid, Spinks (really??? ...isn't that an iconic Egyptian monument or is it underwear?), Spring Cress Mayflower, Meadow Cress, Cuckoo Buds, Cuckoo Spit (lovely) ... Apparently Europeans have as many issues as we do. Can we please just use the clear and simple Cardamine pratensis? Is it too much to ask? Did you know that "pratensis" is Latin for "meadow" and not "pretentious"? This lovely perennial is clean, pretty and under-utilized, 'Salzach' a worthy selection of the species. Partly to fully open shade in moist, fertile soil. Established pot grown plant from division.
