Aralia cordata

Spikenard

Plant Type:

SHADE PERENNIALS

Aralia cordata - Extraordinary Spikenard can produce summer arching stems several feet long covered in orbs of pure white flowers each appearing as if they are just exploded fireworks, the moment captured a nanosecond after the explosion. Flowers are small but the aggregate of the event is enormous, beguiling and dramatic... at least we think so. Gorgeous, opulent displays of red-purple to black-purple clouds of berries reminiscent of Elderberry fruit cover the stems late summer and fall. Coarse medium green compound leaves complete the picture. This is an imposing perennial with an almost shrub-like affect for siting in mostly sunny to open shade planted in fertile, draining soil. Should be used more. Seed grown.
