Andromeda polifolia 'Blue Ice'

Bog Rosemary

Plant Type:

BROADLEAF EVERGREEN SHRUBS

Andromeda polifolia 'Blue Ice' - Beautiful blue leathery ellipses pick up a purplish to bronze-mjpurple tone as cold weather predominates on this striking form of Bog Rosemary. Not that you might ever see them but the underside of each leaf is quite white. Pink spring buds open to beautiful down turned white urns studding this slowly spreading shrub like pearls. Not the easiest evergreen candidate in the garden, ours has been very content in nearly full sun planted in fertile, acid soil. We irrigated this garden for years and held our breaths the first year we altered the water system here. But 'Blue Ice' did not flinch. Some winters there is some winter foliage burn. We prune this out. Lo and behold: new blue leaves populate the exposed stems before you know it! Where 'Blue Ice' may have been found we're unsure but the species hales from Northeast U.S., Northern Canada, Europe, Central / West Asia. Cutting grown.
