Geranium phaeum v. phaeum 'Samobor' - This Dusky Cranesbill is easily identified by its attractive palmate leaves adorned with interior the iconic maroon stamp upon each and every leaf. The flowers are black-plum and rise above the leaves spring into early summer. We've had it in the gardens here for 21 years as of this year, 2021; it returns and self-sows and couldn't be an easier garden denizen. Though it self sows the resultant offspring do so judiciously. Some do come true from seed. If any volunteers don't sport the broad maroon markings in what is essentially a circle upon the leaves then commandeer them to the compost heap. The deer and rabbits ignore it but butterflies do like it. Adaptable to full sun but seems to perform best in part sun, dappled light and open shade in fertile ground that holds onto moisture between rains. Originally found in the woodlands of Croatia. Established potted perennial.
