Callicarpa dichotoma

Purple Beautyberry

Plant Type:

DECIDUOUS SHRUBS

Callicarpa dichotoma - 1 remaining. Beautyberry forms abundant summer axillary brush-like flowers in a lavender-pink shade where petioles meet stem. They are not very showy though not unattractive by any measure. It is the copious clustered purple berries which follow that are the main show. Beautyberry is an easy-going shrub that blooms on new wood so it can be pruned in late winter annually to keep it lower and bushier if that befits your landscape. Full to mostly sunny siting planted in fertile, draining soil will keep it happy. Those autumn berries often accompany decent fall foliage color. Coupled with late blooming daylilies, warm season grasses and/or hardy mums... well, you've got yourself a spectacular fall show. Cutting grown.
