Allium texanum

Texas Onion

Plant Type:

SUN PERENNIALS

Allium texanum - The Texas Onion exhibits arced, broad umbels white flowers for up to 6 weeks - a nice, long bloom period. Also very nice is its blue leaves. It is much larger growing than the lovely but unidentified onion we offer, also with blue fistular foliage and definite globular white pom poms. Found in wet areas, roadside ditches and lowlands of Texas and Oklahoma site Allium texanum in fertile soil that retains moisture between rains; no doubt a good choice in a rain garden. And though it likes moisture it is drought tolerant - consider its native region! It will disappear after flowering but new fistular blue foliage will erupt in the autumn. If ordered in autumn your Allium will arrive as dormant potted bulbs. Established potted bulb from offset or seed. If ordered in autumn your Allium will arrive as dormant potted bulbs.

Genus Overview: Allium

The Ornamental Onions are a large group with many garden-worthy species. We’ve selected some that have performed well for us. Most require full to nearly full sun in most any average garden soil. The addition of lime is helpful in acid soils. All our Alliums are offered as pot-grown flowering-sized bulbs from our stock plants.
